Moles are lesions on the skin that are not unusual. They can be something you’re born with, or something that shows up over time. Sun and ultra violet ray exposure can increase their appearance.
In some cases, moles are a precursor to cancer, and this is a major reason for having them removed. But, a lot of people choose to have them removed from prominent places on their bodies, like their face, for appearance sake.
While most moles are unsightly, they don’t often develop into cancer. Moles that appear at birth are more likely to become melanoma, and it’s important to watch them for changes in shape, color and overall appearance. The same is true for moles that appear later in life, especially those that show up after around age 20.
There are a variety of ways to remove a mole, including cutting the mole out and cauterization. Most people don’t realize that removing a mole can leave behind a scar, regardless of whether you’re removing it for cosmetic reasons or suspected cancer. The only mole removal procedure that doesn’t leave a scar behind is the shaving technique; however that can leave a portion of the mole behind – which can lead to the reappearance of the mole.
When considering having a mole removed, be sure to get as much information about the potential scar, specifically its size, shape and location. Being armed with this information will help lead to a more successful scar treatment.
It’s important to begin the scar removal process as soon as the wound is totally healed. While older mole scars are not impossible to diminish, it just takes exponentially longer.
InvisiScar® Surgical scar removal is an option; however it will not affect the skin’s discoloration. Gels and vitamin creams are another option, however silicon based products seem to have the most success with mole scar removal, especially when used in conjunction with a cream.
InvisiScar offers a silicone based sheeting product that is almost 95% effective on removing all types of scars, including mole related scars. The silicone helps to soften the skin, while the patch denies the scarred area of oxygen and provides a warm environment that helps break the fibrous collagen down. The sheets can be cut to the precise size of the scar, creating a customized treatment option. They apply a certain amount of pressure on the scar, which provides a more successful removal process than using a gel or cream based product alone.
